1. THE CONSULTATION
Because each person has unique hair loss concerns, needs, and expectations, the consultation is the first, and one of the most important steps in your hair loss assessment. We understand that hair loss is a sensitive and personal issue. That's why our consultations are private and confidential.
We understand that many people are anxious about discussing their hair loss. They want information without feeling pressured. That's why our office atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, and our consultations are in depth and tailored to each person’s particular needs. We get to know you, and want you to be confident with us and your hair restoration decisions.
You will have the opportunity to meet with Dr. Giannotto and a highly experienced medical advisor who will answer your questions and provide you with the most current information on hair loss and treatment alternatives. Your specific hair loss situation is evaluated with regard to hair color, texture, curl, and density. Your potential for future hair loss will also be determined. Based on this evaluation as well as individual expectations, a treatment plan will be outlined regarding medical, non medical or surgical choices. If surgery is recommended, the total number of follicular units required, the number of procedures, and the cost will be addressed.
You will be given the opportunity to meet with actual hair transplant patients in various stages of his/her procedure. While before and after pictures are very important, we encourage you to meet with as many patients as possible. 2. HAIR TRANSPLANT PROCEDURE
• It is important to read the pre-operative instructions. Medications and over-the-counter herbs and supplements that may promote bleeding are listed, as well as other helpful and required information.
• When you arrive you will meet the medical staff, and the areas to be transplanted will be reviewed and drawn by Dr. Giannotto. The actual placement and use of follicular unit or combination grafting will be discussed. You will see where your new hair line will be created, or the exact placement of follicular units for other various patterns.
• Donor Area. Defined as the area containing healthy hair follicles on the back and sides of the head which are genetically programmed not to shed
• You will be given a mild sedative to help relieve any anxiety.
• Dr. Giannotto will personally perform and supervise the procedure.
• Micro dissection and placement of follicular units will begin. You will find yourself quite relaxed and comfortable and will be able to enjoy a movie or simply listen to music.
• Mantis® Microscope Advantages. Over 40% more grafts are yielded from the donor area which allows for the highest growth survival rate of grafts. This gives you the fullest and most natural looking hair and preserves donor supply for future use.
• After your procedure, post-operative instructions will be reviewed in written and oral format. No bandages are required. Please remember to bring a baseball cap to wear home.
• The scalp is very vascular, so immediately after the follicular unit grafts and micro-grafts are implanted, the surrounding tissue begins feeding the transplanted follicle and healing begins.
3. FOLLOW-UP
• If you so desire, you may return the next day for a shampoo. All post-operative instructions will be thoroughly discussed again and all questions answered.
• Sutures are removed 10-14 days later.
• Most of the hair stubble sheds after 2 weeks and the new hair begins growing three to four months after the procedure. Participation in the post-operative laser program optimizes healing and accelerates growth.
• Follow up visits are at 6 months or sooner upon request.
